Propagation of African Violet - by Leaf
Propagation of my miniature African Violet (A.V.) [non-chimera A.V. only]
- Cut a healthy leaf from the African violet (A.V.)
- Or use a leaf which is broken off from the A.V.
- Shorten the leaf petiole to about 1 inch
- Always cut the petiole at 45o
- Place the leaf into a pre-moistened gravel [perlite + hydroponic lecca + vermiculite; 1 part each]
- Envelope the leaf cutting with a clear plastic bag [to provide a high humidity]
- Place the enveloped leaf cutting at a cool area with the fluorescent lighting
- Ensure the gravel constantly moist at all times; check regularly for disease [eg. fungus / mildew, etc] or pests
- Wait for 2-4 weeks for root formation and another 2-4 weeks for plantlets
- Once tiny roots are formed, feed the leaf cutting with diluted A.V. fertilizer [1/10 dilution]
